One Chinese man reminisced to me concerning how he came to dedicate his life to the Lord. When he was young, although both parents were believers, he didn't personally believe in God. I was told that he viewed his parents as though they weren't good people. After finishing high school at 17 years of age, he wondered what to do with his life and headed out on a walk past a field. "I knew nothing about divine healing." When he was 15 years old, he had a high fever that lasted for 2 weeks. He was on the verge of dying and the doctors couldn't do anything. "Western and Chinese doctors couldn't do anything for me. I was left at home helpless. Since I believed in the Lord, I had never asked him for anything special. So, that evening I was in a hopeless state. I just closed my eyes and prayed a very sincere prayer, very simple. I said Lord you know I'm very ill. Doctor's medicines couldn't do me any good. Would you please have mercy on me, heal my illness, I hope that my faith could be strengthened." (more)
While in northern Yunnan, I came across a book of miracles that a Catholic had written in 1987. The book, entitled "True People, True Stories," appeared to be homemade and contained many amazing stories, some from long ago. I had it translated into English with the help of some Chinese students. Most of the other stories that I collected, I find highly reliable and wonderful towards exalting the name of Jesus. In these, however, I couldn't seem to find the name of Jesus once and there are also some un-Biblical additives including praying to a statue of Mary and some tombs. I would consider these stories history material for now. (more)
